Indo-French cooperation on heritage planning

A French delegation accompanied by two representatives of the ANVPAH & VSSP went to Delhi and in the state of Madhya Pardesh in order to trace future directions of work.

The mission, held from 12 to 20 December 2010, is made by two representatives ANVPAH & VSSP, a representative of UNESCO and three experts in architecture and heritage.

In Delhi, the participants met with key local partners whose network of cities IHCN and the Indian Ministry of Culture. Together, they discussed the prospects of work for the period 2011-2012.

They went then in the state of Madhya Pradesh where it was question to setting up a pilot project for the protection of heritage. This one includes the creation of a first perimeter protection and development around the site of the Citadel and the banks of the river. This will protect immediately exposed buildings and work later on appropriate legislation that will extend the effects of this such zone.

Several activities are planned for 2011, including the organization of a seminar on urban heritage in Madhya Pradesh and several workshops in cities of this State in order to work with technicians on the issues identified in previous missions. Finally, a heritage home is planned in Bhopal.
